Amidst Pollution Disasters and Landslides, MVP Announces Near $8B Cost Increase and Further Delay

Canonsburg, PA — The Mountain Valley Pipeline announced further delay of construction into the second quarter of 2024 and a cost increase up to $7.63 billion. As justification for the delay, MVP cited challenging construction conditions and winter weather.

Russell Chisholm, directly harmed community member on the MVP route and co-director of the Protect Our Water, Heritage, Rights Coalition (POWHR) responded:

“This news is as predictable as a mudslide on these steep slopes in the rain. MVP’s rush to work recklessly through winter has led to pollution in our streams and landslides near our homes while they bury corroding pipe and backfill their trenches with investor money.

“Promises and assurances from MVP are meaningless because they are based entirely on corporate greed; they don’t operate in the realm of possibility or with any consideration to community safety. We’ve said it from the start and we’ll never stop: this project is a beleaguered climate nightmare that is a costly liability to its misguided investors.”
