Biden Administration Allows MVP to Cross the JNF Again

Washington, D.C. — The US Forest Service has issued a Record of Decision (ROD) to allow the Mountain Valley Pipeline to cross the Jefferson National Forest. The decision is based on a new Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. The company cannot start construction on forest service lands until they have all federal and state authorizations for the project. The Bureau of Land Management can now consider granting MVP an amended Right of Way for construction across 3.5 miles of the Jefferson National Forest. 

Last year, the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated MVP’s previous permitand remanded it back to the federal regulatory agencies. 

Russell Chisholm, Managing Director of the Protect Our Water, Heritage, Rights Coalition (POWHR) responded: 

“I can see the Jefferson National Forest from my kitchen window. This land is precious to me. It is home. The Biden administration is trying to destroy my home with the Mountain Valley Pipeline, despite the National Forest’s protected status. This unfinished, unnecessary pipeline project that has accrued hundreds of violations. The Biden administration’s next move must be to stop the MVP. On June 8th, we’ll be on his front door step demanding he do so.”
