Celebrate the 5th Annual Hands Across the Appalachian Trail
Pearisburg, VA. ― On Saturday, October 24, community members, environmental groups and all who value the Appalachian Trail will come together virtually from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. to celebrate the fifth annual “Hands Across the Appalachian Trail.” The event will feature the stories of community members live from Pearisburg, near where the Appalachian Trail is threatened by the Mountain Valley Pipeline, as well as music from local musicians and video messages and images from along the Trail, from Georgia to Maine. Attendees will also hear about ways to protect and preserve the national treasure.
Currently, the Mountain Valley Pipeline threatens to cross the Appalachian Trail, causing harm to the Trail and its iconic viewsheds in Southern West Virginia and Southwest Virginia. Delays and stop work orders resulting from the dedicated work of volunteers, community groups, allies, legal advocates, and others have protected the trail thus far, and the virtual event will highlight this work and ways to continue protecting and preserving the Trail while celebrating the outdoor treasure. “Hands Across the Appalachian Trail” includes support from POWHR, Appalachian Voices, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter, 350 Loudoun, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Preserve Monroe, Preserve Giles County, ARTivism Virginia, Virginia Interfaith Power & Light, Sierra Club – Great Falls Group, Sierra Club – Piedmont Group and the Greater Prince William Climate Action Network.
