Montgomery County to Consider MVP Emergency Access Proposal
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a work session during their upcoming August 10 meeting to discuss a proposed “Transportation and Emergency Access Improvements Project” agreement.
The proposed agreement would attempt to “address and improve emergency access and emergency evacuation routes in this area, including, without limitation, safety concerns arising from Norfolk Southern train-related access blockages at the existing at-grade railroad crossing along Cove Hollow Road identified in the Board of Supervisors’ Resolution R-FY-26-68, dated December 15, 2025.”
In its December 15, 2025 resolution, the Board also notified the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission of its concerns “with the direct, indirect and cumulative impacts, on the natural, physical and human environments that may be caused from adverse hazardous air emissions and from greenhouse gases emanating from the Swann Compressor facility that will impact the air and water quality, wildlife and socioeconomic factors in the County of Montgomery, Virginia.”
The Board further requested that “FERC require an impartial Environmental Impact Statement ("the EIS") to be prepared to address the significant environmental effects the Boost Project will have on the natural, physical and human environments in the County…”
MVP’s proposal to the board does not address the health or environmental impact concerns. The Board passed its Resolution of Opposition in response to community objections to the Swann Compressor Station raised at previous board meetings and those public health and safety concerns have not changed.
The Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 10, at 6:30 PM at the Montgomery County Government Center, 2nd Floor Board Chambers, 755 Roanoke Street Christiansburg, VA. County. MVP cannot be allowed to find new ways to evade their responsibility and ignore the environmental and health problems Boost would create.
Residents are encouraged to attend and urge the board to hold the line and reject the Swann site as unsuitable for a massive, polluting compressor station in an environmental justice community.
