Washington, D.C. — The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) reported to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that construction is complete and requested authorization to go in service in the next 24 hours. The MVP recently reported to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) that it has found 130 potential problems that require repair and analysis.

Denali Nalamalapu, co-director of the Protect Our Water, Heritage, Rights Coalition (POWHR) responded:

“These fossil fuel bandits are itching to run away before their shoddy project explodes. MVP has reported hundreds of pipe problems that must be addressed, and yet the pipeline is demanding the federal government allow them to start pumping methane gas in the next 24 hours. An explosion could mean immediate harm to community members and a catastrophic emissions hike that will worsen the global climate crisis. Impacted community members have been advocating tirelessly for their lives, and every government body and regulatory agency has sat silently and watched this travesty unfold.”
