Pressure Continues on Virginia DEQ to Adequately Enforce Laws on Failing MVP

Protestors, some wearing possum masking, holding signs that read "Do Your Job DEQ"

Richmond, VA — Today, June 20, 2024, local groups representing community members along the Mountain Valley Pipeline route in Virginia issued a letter to the Department of Environmental Quality demanding strong enforcement action to address the compliance failures of the pipeline project. The groups include Preserve Montgomery County, Preserve Giles County, Preserve Bent Mountain, and the POWHR Coalition.

The letter calls for strong enforcement action on areas not properly restored and where MVP has caused long-lasting damage.

“Landowners and community members continue to be harmed by the aftermath of MVP construction and DEQ must do its duty to reverse, or at minimum mitigate, those harms. That will require strict enforcement of regulations for ongoing restoration work and levying penalties and follow-up for damages already done,” the letter states.

This morning, protestors gathered at the regional office on the pipeline route in Salem, Virginia and delivered the letter to the DEQ.
